ON THE WINGS OF A DOVE 🕊🤍

The 2nd of October, which is the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is also the 'International Day of Non-Violence'.🕊

A few years ago, I discovered this beautiful song sung by one of my favourite singers, Olivia Newton-John and her daughter.

If only every nation around the globe, would find ways in which to dialogue with one another, stop the violence and end the mindless and meaningless wars, our world would be a more peaceful and a happier place.🤍

I thought I would share this song today, at the start of the month of October.

WINDOW IN THE WALL 🎶

- Olivia Newton-John and Chloe

I also saw this video today, where the Pope prays for collaboration between different religious traditions, to help people realise that we are 'One Human Family'; and that we need to work together, to bring about peace and unity, in our fragmented world. 🙏

BEAUTIFUL LIKE A RAINBOW 🌈

The rainy season has just been endless, this year. Much longer than the usual 4 months. The unseasonal showers began in May, and we're almost in October; but it doesn't seem to have finished, pouring down on the earth. It almost feels like we've been sitting under a waterfall, non-stop for so many months.🌧☔️

While we're so 'Grateful', for a more than adequate supply of water, for the year ahead; we can't help smiling, every time the sun peeps out, from behind those gloomy clouds, which are still visible.🙏

But very soon, as the monsoon ends and the weather changes again, we'll be grumbling and complaining about the October heat.🌞

I guess, our human nature makes us behave like that.🤷🏻‍♀️ We forget to be 'Thankful for the many Blessings', which we receive in abundance, every single day.

The end of the rains, is usually the time, to look out for rainbows. I haven't seen one yet, this year. But I did think of two songs that talk about 'Rainbows', sung beautifully by Eva Cassidy.🌈

LIFE AND DEATH ✍️

I read a post last night, which shared an unbelievable experience, of a person who had to recently undergo a heart surgery, due to serious blocks, even though he had always been doing all the right things, to stay healthy, whether it was fitness, food or habits.

Thankfully, he discovered that something was wrong, in time; and could take corrective medical action immediately...and hopefully, he will now recover and get better slowly.🙏

But this is not the first time, that I have heard about a person, experiencing a 'completely unexpected thunderbolt' or 'health scare' like this, in their lives. One, that seemed to have appeared suddenly, out of nowhere.

A little less than 2 years ago, another friend, who was also just 50 years old, and was just as conscious about his health and fitness, had an almost similar experience.

Sadly, he wasn't as lucky; and passed away, just a few days, after tests revealed the blocks in his arteries. His condition couldn't be reversed, even after a medical procedure; to the complete shock and disbelief, of everyone who knew him.

He was another person, who had always been conscious about health and fitness; and yet, he couldn't prevent this from happening.

At times like these, when even doctors and heart surgeons, find it difficult to offer explanations, as to what could have caused such extreme health conditions, in people who actually seemed to consciously look after their health; it becomes difficult to understand, how these things could happen to anyone, without any warning.🤔

In my many years, of looking after sick parents; I have done extensive reading and research, about health related issues, food, nutrition and other similar topics. In the process, I have become more aware and learned a lot, about how lifestyle, stress, sleep, emotions, food, nutrition, gut health, and numerous other factors, are just as important as fitness and exercise, when we talk about overall health and well-being.

It's true that 'Death', can never be predicted, and it often comes without a warning. I've experienced that enough of times in my own life, to know that anything can happen to anyone, at anytime. Unexpected sicknesses and unforseen incidents, can cause people to just disappear from our lives forever, in a moment.😔

Very often, even when we think we are doing all the right things, we still experience 'health scares', even among young and healthy people. We try our best to take care of everything, that we think we know; but there is always so much, that we are not really aware of, that could be happening silently, on the inside, causing irreversible damage to our health.

Making little conscious and long term 'Lifestyle Changes', and focusing on our 'Emotional Well-Being', does make a difference to our health, to a large extent. I have discovered that for myself, over the last 10 or 15 years.

But at the same time, when you have watched so many people in your family die, you also become aware of the fact, that 'Death' is one thing, that we can never really predict. It could happen to any of us, at any time; and no one or nothing could stop it, even if we tried.

So, 'One Day at a Time.

One Moment at a Time.'

The only way to live this uncertain, unpredictable 'Life'. That's what my own experiences, have always taught me. This Life that we've been blessed with, is a Gift to us anyway. We just don't know, how long it will last.🤷🏻‍♀️✍️

ADVERTISING NOSTALGIA

A friend has been posting these old Ad films, over the last few days. I think, almost everyone in India used to watch these on Doordarshan, back when we were younger.

It was quite nostalgic to see these again. So, I thought I would share them here also.

THOUGHTS AND REFLECTIONS ✍️

(An old post, that I wrote on FB, 9 years ago on this day.

It's nice to read these 'Reflections about Life', that I had written a long time ago, once again, after a gap of many years.)

11th August '2016 ✍️

Life is full of many twists and turns along the way. Some of those, we are prepared for; but some crop up so unexpectedly, that they sometimes take us completely by surprise.

When these sudden turn of events are happy ones, they absolutely make our day; and we can't help but Smile, from ear to ear.

However occasionally, these unexpected twists, could result in a lot of sadness, hurt and pain.

Overcoming these hurdles, that come our way in life though, just takes a little bit of Acceptance, Forgiveness and the ability to Smile; even though we know, that it would have been better, if life had turned out differently.

Here's hoping, we are always prepared, to 'Expect the Unexpected' and are blest with the Gift of Acceptance, no matter how difficult the situation may be. ✍️

(These are a couple of quotes, that I had found online, during the pandemic. I posted them, 6 years ago on this day.

I had shared these, just as 'Motivational Thoughts' for myself, and for anyone else who may have needed it, at that very strange time, which everyone struggled to get through.

I guess, it's always thought-provoking to read quotes like these again, whenever you're reminded of them.) 🤔

LITTLE JOYS OF LIFE ✍️

(There are days, when I find an old post like this one, which FB brings back to life. Posts, which still have a 'Like' or 'Comment' from my Mum on them. That may mean nothing to anyone else; but it makes that post, 'Special' to me.✨️💖

I'm sharing one of those old posts, written on this day, 8 years ago, on 19th July '2017.

Even during the time, that my Mum went through her 2 Cancers, with all the many surgeries, chemos and everything else; there were phases, when she was well enough, to still go online.

Whenever I find one of these old posts, it makes me feel, both Happy and Sad at once. Happy to see my mum's name, in the list of people, who had Liked that post; but Sad, that she can't read, anything that I write now, and that I'll never find new comments, from her again.

Tiny and silly little things like these, mean everything, to a daughter, who misses her mother, every single day.😔)

19th July '2017 ✍️

Blessings from above surround us constantly, sometimes in the form of the special people in our lives; and at other times, in the form of moments that matter, and that make a difference.

All we need to do, is to recognise those precious gifts, and to be 'Grateful' for these constant and abundant 'Blessings', no matter how large or small they may be.

Every moment in life, and so many people, who we meet on life's journey, are valuable 'Gifts' to us, from above.

Let's remember to BE THANKFUL TODAY, because who knows what's in store for us, tomorrow.🙏

SABKA APNA APNA NORMAL ✍️

Last Saturday, I watched a Hindi film after many, many years. In fact, I visited a movie theatre, after a long time too. I haven't watched any film on the big screen, for very long. I decided to go and watch this one though, exactly a week after the film was released.

That was primarily because, I had loved 'Taare Zameen Par'. When I saw the Poster for this film, I noticed that they had used the same colour and font as that movie, and that it was called 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. So, I kind of guessed, that it would be a movie, which dealt with a similar concept.

In the weeks, before the movie was finally released in Theatres, I had already watched the Trailer a few times. I thought that it was quite amazing, how Aamir Khan had chosen to make a film, which brought the struggles and lives of 'Differently Abled' children, onto the screen in mainstream Hindi cinema. What a wonderful way to create an 'Awareness', and to speak about an important topic, using the medium of Entertainment.👍

I have always been an admirer of Aamir Khan's film choices, and his ability to do justice to every role that he plays. In the last few decades, he has also chosen to bring about a lot of 'Social Consciousness' and 'Awareness', both through his films and the TV show that he had done, called 'Satyameva Jayate'.

This film, is one more step in that same direction. It highlights the struggles of children, who are born with intellectual disabilities, autism and similar challenges like that.

I especially loved the tag line of the film, 'Sabka apna apna Normal hota hain'. That one line, truly brings out the entire message, that the film has endeavoured to convey.👏👏👏

I have heard lots of different kinds of reviews, about the film. But in my opinion, this movie is almost like a 'Path-Breaker' in Indian cinema, simply because of the concept it chose to speak about; and because of the fact, that the actors in the film, were actually 'Real Differently-Abled' people. It must have been challenging to work with and to shoot an entire film, with those children; but I think, that's what brings out the 'Reality' of their challenges and struggles, even more.👍

Thanks to the fact that 'Inclusive Education' is now being spoken about, more and more in India, we have a lot of children with Learning Disabilities, and even with other Psychological and Behavioural challenges, in many of our schools today. So, most Teachers, even in regular schools, have had experiences of working with and interacting with 'Children who have Special Needs', every single day, for many years now.

But for a large percentage of the population in the country, they would not really have come in close contact with 'Special Children'.

That's why, I think this movie, is kind of like an 'Eye-Opener' for many people. At least, it will sensitise the entire nation, and make everyone think twice, before that react harshly or negatively, towards a 'Special Person'.💖

As a Teacher, I also know that I learned more from the children in my classroom everyday, than I could have ever taught them. That concept, was also presented so beautifully in this film, with numerous 'Lessons for Teachers', along the way, brought out through the journey of the 'Coach'.

He thought he was teaching them; but ended up learning so much from the kids. That is another 'Reality', which every Teacher will tell you about, when they narrate stories of their 'Adventures as a Teacher'.😊

On a personal note, this movie was also Special to me, because an old college classmate, was part of the Production Team, as the Head Basketball Coach, who trained the kids and choreographed, all the Basketball scenes, with his team. How wonderful that he got an opportunity, to be part of an 'Initiative' like this. It makes me feel really happy and proud of him.✨️💕

I went and watched this film, just because I wanted to support a movie, that has tried to 'Create an Awareness' about an important set of people, who live and breathe among us everyday; but who just happen to be born, a little 'Different' from the rest of us.

If you decide to watch it, don't go for the movie expecting a fast-paced movie with spectacular special effects or an extra-ordinary story. It's quite a simple story, with a few simple but meaningful songs here and there; about ordinary people, who are 'Challenged' in some ways, by virtue of their genetic make-up, over which they had no control.

Of course, the so-called 'Normal' people in the film, have quite a few 'Life-Challenges' of their own, to deal with as well.

There are parts of the film, which are heart-warming, and which will make you Smile; and maybe Laugh a little too.

But more than anything else, the movie will make you 'Think', about a few things, that you may or may not have thought about before.

In doing that, I think the film absolutely achieves its main aim and purpose.✨️💖✍️

ASKING FOR A FRIEND 🎶

I discovered this singer named JJ Heller, at some point, during the pandemic. She composes the simplest, sweetest and most meaningful 'Original Songs', together with her husband.

This is one of her very real songs, that lots of people would connect with.

A short chat that I had, a little while back, reminded me of this one.

ASKING FOR A FRIEND 🎶

By JJ Heller, David Heller, and Ross King

(Song Lyrics)

What do you do when,

Every morning,

The first thing you think is,

You just want to stay in bed?

I’m just asking for a Friend.

What do you say when,

All of your feelings,

Are so overwhelming,

That you’re too tired to pretend?

I’m just asking for a Friend.

Maybe you’re thinking,

She sounds like a mess.

But trust me when I say,

She’s doing her best.

Doing her best.

We all need,

We all need the same thing;

Someone to 'Let Us In'.

We all need,

We all need 'A Safe Place',

We don’t have to defend.

I’m not asking,

For all the pain in all the world, to end.

I’m just asking for a Friend.

How do you come back,

From losing all you have?

You’re so afraid that,

You’ll just lose it all again.

I’m just asking for a Friend.

Maybe you don’t know,

The right thing to say;

But trust me, what she needs,

Is 'Someone to Stay'.

'Someone to Stay'.

We all need,

We all need the same thing;

Someone to 'Let Us In'.

We all need

We all need 'A Safe Place',

We don’t have to defend.

I’m not asking,

For all the pain in all the world, to end.

I’m just asking for a Friend.

I’ve been looking for Connection,

But I don’t know where I fit in.

I’m still afraid of rejection,

But I’m ready to begin.

‘Cause I could really use a Friend,

I’m just asking for a Friend.😊🎶

IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES🤔✍️

MIRROR IMAGE ✍️

(Originally written on FB, two years ago, on this day, 10th March '23.)

The Mirrors in our Eyes;

Clear Visions to See,

Piercing, Discerning,

Reflections of the Deepest Soul.

The Mirrors in our Minds;

On Constant Re-play,

Pondering, Wondering,

Reflections of Honest Truth.

The Mirrors in our Hearts;

Forever Aimlessly Lost,

Yearning, Longing,

Reflections of Devoted Love.

The Mirrors in our History;

Strolling Down Memory-Lane,

Unearthing, Discovering,

Reflections of a Forgotten Time.

The Mirrors in our Dreams;

A Walk into the Unknown,

Waking, Sleeping,

Reflections of Unfulfilled Desire.

The Mirrors in our Lives;

Like a Friend, Always There,

Accompanying, Guiding,

Reflections of Untampered Reality.

(I only ever had 'ONE REAL MIRROR' in my Life; and I see more and more of 'Her Reflection' staring back at me, every single day, each time I look into one.✨️❤️

I guess, that was the starting point of these reflective verses, when I wrote it two years ago.)

What a beautiful thought!

A reminder to keep touching lives and hearts, in little ways everyday.😊

'Every day is beautiful in its own way'.

WITH GRATEFUL HEARTS ✨️💖

While we need to be 'Thankful' for all of life's 'Countless Blessings' every single day; the last day of the year, is kind of like a 'Reminder' to us, to 'Always Have a Grateful Heart'.✨️💖

MIDNIGHT MUSINGS ✍️

In the still of the night,

Little stars twinkle bright;✨️

The moon strolls along,

Saying, 'Write me a song!'✍️

When all around is calm,

By the window, sways a palm;🌴

The gentle caress of the breeze,

Coaxing, 'Just fall asleep please!'😴

No chill in the air, it's warm,

So different from the norm;❄️

The mind like an overflowing cup,

Thinking, 'Can't explain, what's up!'.🤔

LAUGHING IN HARMONY 🎶😄

I'm sure anyone who has ever sung in a choir will identify with this one. Really funny!😂😂😂

This picture made everyone laugh, the first time that someone posted it on a group, a few years ago. Since then, whenever this memory comes up once a year, it still makes us smile.😄

...BECAUSE I'M HAPPY✨️😄

(An old FB Memory from this day, two years ago, 17th November '2022.)

Most of the time, when I write posts like this, it is more to 'Uplift and Motivate' myself, than others. If it makes other people feel good too, that's just a 'Bonus'.

This has been a sad week, in which I attended two Funerals, on two consecutive days.😢

So, I was really glad to spend the afternoon, with old colleagues from DB today, who have been my 'Friends like Family' for 20 years; but who I hardly ever get a chance to meet now. That completely cheered me up.✨️💞

...And then FB reminded me of this post today, which also made me 'Smile'.😊

Was trying to look back and remember, some of the 'Happiest' moments in my life thus far, just because 'Happy' days make you 'Happier'.😊

(That sentence made me think of my 'Degrees of Comparison' English Grammar classes back in DB.😂)

I think, the day when I saw my name on the 'Admission List' at Xavier's, is probably right up there. That's the first thing I thought of just now. It's something I had wanted, for the longest time; and so, that confirmation that I had got in, just made my day.💕

Another 'Happy Memory' is receiving an extra-special audio cassette as a 'Surprise' on my 21st Birthday, on which my friend Marcelle, had managed to record lovely birthday wishes, in words and song, from so many, many Friends and a few Professors too, in College.

I don't even know when she managed to do that; going all around Xavier's, for days before my Birthday, and secretly recording these awesome 'Voice Messages' on her Walkman. (That was in the days before Mobile Phones.)

Some of my old college friends, may remember being on it.😊 I must've listened to that tape hundreds of times, for years after that.

Best Gift ever!🤗❤️

If I actually sat down to make a list, it would probably be an endless one, with thousands of those happy moments, made at Don Bosco.💞

😊Travelling and discovering innumerable new places, together with the DB children, on every single school trip, over the years. Memories to Cherish Forever!

😊The Joy I felt, at the end of every huge Annual Day Production, that had turned out so beautifully on stage. There's nothing that can match the feeling, of helping children discover their Talents, and playing a small part in shaping those inborn Gifts, through Plays, Songs and Performances at School Assemblies, Functions and big Musicals too. Watching them bloom and grow right before your eyes, is 'Priceless'.🎤🎶💕

😊The Happiness that holding every issue of the School Magazine, I had worked on for months, made me feel...Unforgettable! Even though I lovingly put together, a couple of those each year, for close to two decades, I still didn't outgrow that 'Joyful Feeling', at seeing a copy of the latest 'Bosco Flash', fresh from the Printing Press in my hand, because for me, each issue I worked on, was 'A Labour of Love. ✍️💖

One happy thought sparks off another. It's almost like setting off 'a chain reaction of Joyful Memories'.❤️ The more time I spend thinking about this, the more moments, people and experiences are coming alive, from different stages in life and with different groups of people, that I have interacted with, all through life's journey.

There's so much to be 'Grateful' for in one lifetime, if we only take the time to think about it. 🙏

I guess, if we all spent a few minutes occasionally, trying to remember 'Moments that made us Smile', it would really brighten our day so much.😊

Happy Memories from the past, could bring lots of 'Sunshine and Joy' to our 'Here and Now'.😄

Just try it out some time; and you'll see, how it works like 'Magic'.✨️❤️

JUST LIKE A CHILD 😊🎶

- 14th November ' 2012 ✍️

(A twelve year old FB Memory)

Enthusiastic!

Imaginative!

Creative!

Innovative!

Open to learn!

Expressive!

Full of Life!

A Joy to be around!

How Wonderful to be a Child!

I wonder why we let go of all that, as the years go by.🤔

'Happy Children's Day', to all the kids I know.😊❤️

A beautiful song, that is so appropriate for today; but this one is for everyone who interacts with Children, in some way or the other, as Parents, Teachers, Guides, Mentors, Role-Models.

Little Eyes and Ears are following your every move and 'Listening' at all times.

So, 'Careful'!😊

CHILDREN WILL LISTEN 🎶

- ONE VOICE CHILDREN'S CHOIR

- THE SALVATION SINGERS 🎶

Dylan D'Souza and 'The Salvation Singers' are 'My Favourite Choir in Mumbai'. So, I'm always happy to share, one of their versions of a song again.❤️

The lyrics of this song are just as haunting as the harmony.

(Song Lyrics) 🎶

Careful the things you say, Children will Listen.

Careful the things you do, Children will See.

Children may not obey, but Children will Listen.

Children will look to you, for which way to turn, To Learn what to Be!

- 14th November '2019 ✍️

(Another old FB post from this day.)

Children fill the world with Sunshine and Cheer,

In the heart of a Teacher, each one holds a place, so Dear.

As Time goes by, the Countless Memories flood the mind,

And how often I wish, I could just click 'Rewind'.

To bring back the kids, from years gone by,

To hold on to the Joyful Memories, I still try.

Sending lots of Love and Happy wishes your way,

As I think of you, my students both far and near, this Children's Day.😊💕

- 14th November '2016 ✍️

(Sometimes it's great to discover these old FB Memories, and read things I have written over the years.)

The secret to being Happy, is never letting go of the Child in you, no matter how old you are.

Hold on to the Innocence, Simplicity, sense of Wonder, Imagination, Creativity, Joy and Laughter within you; and the Child in you will always be Alive.

Happy Children's Day to the 'Child' in all of you.✨️❤️

LIKE A CANDLE IN THE DARK 🕯✨️

A few Inspirational Songs about 'Light, Love and Peace'.✨️❤️🕊

This World could always use a little more of all of it, not just during the 'Festival of Lights',🪔 but every single day.🕯🌎

BE A LIGHT ✨️🎶

- Shawna Edwards

Most of her songs are 'Gospel based' and usually sung by Children. I have followed her songs for a few years now, and I like many of them.😊

LIGHT A CANDLE FOR PEACE ✨️🎶

- Shelley Murley (Sung by her daughter Emily)

A beautiful song about 'Peace in Our World'. If only human beings, all over the globe, realised how important and necessary it is, to live in a 'Peaceful World'.🕊🌎

We just have 'One Life to Live', and no one really knows, how long or short, the 'Duration or Time-Frame', of our 'Journey through this Life' is going to be.🤷🏻‍♀️

Why can't we just spend the time we've been given to live on this earth, 'Living Peacefully, in Harmony with one another', at all times.🤍😊

THE LIGHT IN YOU ✨️🎶

- Bethel Music

While we always hope and pray for 'Peace in the World' outside, we also need to be filled with 'Light and Peace', and a sense of calm within.🤍

A reminder in song, (that all of us human beings need occasionally), especially during 'moments of darkness', when we experience feelings and emotions like 'anguish, pain, distress, worry, hurt, anxiety and loss'.💔😢

A very meaningful and uplifting song, about 'Peace in our Hearts and Minds'. I found this one today, when I was listening to different songs about 'Light'.✨️

...because there is a 'Light', deep inside each and every single one of us. We just have to 'Discover it, whenever it is Lost, and 'Let it Shine Bright', just like 'A Candle in the Dark'.🕯💞

For every person in our lives, who always sees 'The Light', that shines brightly within us, even at times when we cannot.🌟🤗

Such a beautiful, uplifting song. I just accidentally found it today, and I liked the lyrics.✍️

Enjoy the 'Festival of Lights' everyone.🪔 A wonderful time to remember, that we can all 'Be a Light' in our own little corner, every single day.✨️

WHEN VIENNA SINGS FOR YOU 😊🎶

(An old FB post, written 5 years ago, on this day, 31st October' 2019.)

As I listened to the children from the 'Vienna Boys Choir' in Austria, (on a tour of India after 15 long years) singing at the Tata Theatre, NCPA last evening, I was amazed at how little children, all between the ages of 10 and 15, from almost 15 different countries of origin, were singing together in perfect harmony.

These children are part of a 500 year old Music school in Vienna, Austria; and they travel all over the world in small groups, singing and performing.

While they performed the music of a number of world famous and renowned composers, they also attempted to sing a couple of popular Hindi songs.

One of the songs they sang as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Anniversary was 'Raghupati Raghav'. Without even knowing the language, they sang so beautifully and harmoniously, in their cute Austrian accents.😊

Children can sometimes teach us human beings important 'Lessons', about breaking barriers and walls, because they actually don't really exist at all.

They are simply 'man-made creations', and if we only overlook those 'differences', there is so much 'Joy' we can find; because we would just enjoy the pure 'Peace and Warmth', that little children singing harmoniously in their angelic voices, brings to our hearts and minds. ✨️🎶
